Reflective Narrative
Since WLC300 is a team-taught course for both Japanese and Spanish majors, I was able to familiarize myself with the Spanish major professors as well as students. Through breakout room exercises, I likewise found myself being more comfortable talking to others both in and out of my major about my future career goals, language learning related struggles and advice, and other conversations that those who aren’t in a language major may not understand. Although the course was taught once a week online, a challenge for myself, I felt like I was able to gain a lot of important information for my graduation and future opportunities.
At the beginning of the course, we took the STAMP test, a language proficiency assessment that tests language capability in reading, writing, listening, and speaking accordingly. My STAMP test scores for the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester are located here.
Throughout the semester, we did a lot of coursework related to our E-Portfolios such as the personal statement, our resume, our individual learning plan, and of course creating the shell for our website. All of these assignments mentioned will be located on the home page of my e-portfolio. This was an amazing opportunity, as it reduces future stress levels towards graduation and I have a solid plan for what I need to do before I graduate.
Since taking WLC300, I feel like I actually understand what MLOs are, how course reflective narratives work and when I should write them, and what I need to do before graduation and capstone. All of this information I did not know well enough before this class, yet felt like it was expected of me to know in my more advanced classes. I recognize now that it was this class that really brings everything together and provides you with that solid foundation needed to move forward in your major.
I’m definitely moving on from this class with a determination to go back to all of the classes I have taken in previous years and review material I’ve worked on to add to my e-portfolio. I’m excited to have something I can store all of my coursework and achievements in that will last even after I graduate, and I can’t wait to show my e-portfolio to my family and other people who I’m hoping will be proud of how far I’ve come.
