Reflective narrative
This course, taught in Japanese and online at the time, was very eye opening in terms of MLO 1 and 2. I learned about many aspects of Japanese culture such as tea ceremony and wagashi (Japanese sweets) in depth and even created my own ideal tea ceremony as a partner project. Please view the script my partners and I created for this project here.
We also looked at aspects of Japanese pop culture such as anime and manga. In a partner project, I worked with another student on a simple analysis of her favorite manga "Ao Haru Ride" This project taught me a lot about teamwork, especially in a virtual environment which has become incredibly important in today's time.
We also learned many different aspects of Japanese food culture, and our final project for the class was creating a new design of a meal with a designated audience. I created "Cubic Chicken Katsu" which is simply a bite-size chicken katsu (Japanese style breaded and fried chicken). This would be a simple and cheap meal, making it easy for students and young people. Please see my Google slides for this project here.
I not only learned the language in this class, but I also developed a greater understanding on many aspects of Japanese culture that were also fun to learn about. The projects were fun and collaborative, and I was able to feel comfortable speaking many sentences in this class because the content was familiar or was something I had an interest in.
